The story so far...

The 1st of July seems a good time to start a blog so here we go.....grab yourself a cuppa and read about my story so far.

First of all, thank you for finding me and reading about my business, I really hope you like what you find and enjoy following my business journey.

Lizzie chancellor with cup of tea

Hi! I'm Lizzie

I started my business back in 2014 when I decided to leave my full time job and go freelance so I could build my business alongside it.  I had no idea how to start and I spent a lot of time reading articles online before deciding to sign up to the "Ladder Club".  This is a seminar designed specifically for greetings card publishers and help provide them with all the information they need to set up their business.  It was very informative and inspiring but also quite scary realising quite how long it would take me to get to where I wanted to be.  (I'm still miles off!)

Preparing to set up my stand - I was so nervous!

First trade fair stand all set up and ready.

In 2015 I had a stand at PG Live, my first Trade Fair, I then went on to do 6 more trade fairs before coming to the decision that I'd prefer to sell mostly online, direct to customer.  The trade fairs cost A LOT of money and are a lot of effort and I felt that I simply wasn't getting the return from them that I needed so decided to push my efforts into selling online instead.  I do still stock a few shops and have some super lovely stockists who I'm proud to have really good relationships with.  I have to say, this industry is a super lovely one!  Everyone I've met at Trade Fairs and markets have all been lovely and so supportive.

My final trade fair, Pulse 2018

Since changing my direction slightly, I've found my business to be much more rewarding and enjoyable.  What I love most is speaking and hearing from my customers, nothing makes me happier than receiving an email saying how happy they were with their purchase.  I received one the other day saying the lady's stepfather had said it was "The best card he's ever received", that made me feel amazing!

After having two children, I've just got back to work again and I feel like I've got a new wave of productivity!  It feels amazing to be focusing on the business again and finally designing the products that have been in my head for the last year!  I'll be sharing these new products soon, if you want to be the first to see them then do join my mailing list.  I promise not to spam you, I'll just be sending emails from time to time about new products and special offers.  You can sign up to my mailing list here.

I've realised also that there are so many other amazing small businesses out there who support each other and I've found a lovely community of mum run businesses, we're able to share tips and help each other when we get stuck on something.  It's nice to have the feeling that you're not totally alone as working on your own business from home can be quite lonely at times.

I'm going to be sharing some of these amazing small businesses in my future blog posts so do keep an eye out for them.  Let me know if there is anything in particular you'd like me to post about?  Or any questions you have, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks for reading, Lizzie x

Really interesting to see how you got set up Lizzie. I’d love to read a blog post at some point about how you come up with the inspiration for your designs and also how you actually make the prints. 😄
